Dominance in Space: The PSLV Success Story
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) continued its "workhorse" legacy with the flawless launch of PSLV-C18. This mission was pivotal as it successfully placed four satellites into orbit, including Megha-Tropiques, a joint Indo-French venture designed to study the water cycle in the tropical atmosphere. This provided crucial data for understanding climate change and weather patterns affecting the Indian subcontinent.
Earlier in the year, the launch of Resourcesat-2—a primary satellite for natural resource management—further strengthened India's remote sensing capabilities, making it one of the best in the world for agricultural and disaster management monitoring.
Breakthroughs in Medicine and Biotechnology
2011 was a landmark year for public health research. Indian scientists made significant strides in developing a low-cost, indigenous vaccine for Rotavirus, which causes severe diarrhea in children. This move towards "affordable innovation" showcased India’s potential to lead the world in low-cost life-saving technologies.
